CASE STUDY

A placemaking strategy that unites community connection with site activation

Requiring an innovative placemaking strategy to put a misunderstood London location 'on the map' for new audiences including potential future residents and businesses, Projects of Place worked with regeneration developer, Sellar, and London's most popular street food market, Street Feast, to broker a mutually beneficial deal to activate a disused warehouse on site as a community meeting place and street food business incubator.

Following an intensive period of concept development, logistics and promotion, the new night food market attracted over 5,000 visitors on the opening weekend alone. Stakeholder engagement was critical to the success, including local community groups, retailers and developers of other large regeneration schemes adjacent to the site.

The food market enjoyed enduring popularity several years after its intended closure, with the area ultimately becoming much better understood and appreciated by Londoners as a viable and desirable place to live and work while start-up food businesses received a fantastic launching pad through Street Feast’s supportive operations model and loyal community.
